Article: Reduce Single-Use

Reduce Single-Use

Reduce Single-Use

January 7, 2021

In BC, more than 2.8 million disposable cups are trashed every week. Infrastructure is lacking for compostable cups; and recyclable cups don’t always end up in the right recycling stream.

In an effort to reduce single-use cups, Salt Spring Coffee Cafe & Kitchen will be implementing a $0.25 charge with each drink sold in a single use cup starting January 18, 2021.

This charge is waived for customers who use our ceramic mugs or bring their own reusable mugs.

Giving Back with Every Cup

We believe in healthy agriculture, healthy animals and a healthy community.

Which is why the funds raised with the cup charge will be invested back into the community. We will be supporting Harvest Food Programs (Salt Spring Community Services) and subsidizing the use of grass-fed dairy.

Sustainable agriculture is near and dear to our hearts at Salt Spring Coffee. So we have decided to partner with Harvest Food Programs, a program of Salt Spring Community Services. They grow food on a half-acre plot, organizes food skills workshops, provides employment and helps people access healthy, local and seasonal food.

Starting January 18, we are transitioning to the use of grass-fed dairy. Animals being outside, where they are supposed to be, eating what they are supposed to eat. That is something we can stand behind.

Thank you for being a part of the solution.
