Salt Spring Coffee co-founder and CEO Mickey McLeod joined a livestream together with @choosecanadaorganic and Emma Barrett from Mill Street Brewery in celebration of Organic Month!
Together, Mickey and Emma talked about the importance of organic agriculture and how businesses can play a crucial role in educating consumers. As the first Regenerative Organic Certified (ROC) coffee company in Canada—and one of the few in North America—Mickey emphasized how this certification elevates the organic standard to new heights.
“Organic is about what you don’t do—you avoid synthetic inputs like chemical fertilizers, pesticides, and herbicides. Regenerative organic agriculture, however, focuses on what you should do. It considers human, animal, and environmental welfare. With regenerative farming, you're planting not just in soil but within an entire ecosystem. It’s about partnering with nature, not forcing it to work for you,” Mickey shared.
