The Regenerative Organic Alliance and What It Means for Coffee
At Salt Spring Coffee, we’re proud to be Regenerative Organic Certified®, an important milestone in our journey to create a more sustainable and responsible coffee experience. But what exactly is the Regenerative Organic Alliance (ROA), and why does it matter to coffee lovers like you?
The Regenerative Organic Alliance is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing farming and production methods that prioritize soil health, animal welfare, and fairness for farmers and workers. Their certification, Regenerative Organic Certified® (ROC™), sets rigorous standards that go beyond sustainability, aiming to restore and rejuvenate ecosystems while supporting the people who work the land.
This certification is based on three key pillars: soil regeneration, ethical animal treatment (for relevant industries), and social fairness. For us as a coffee producer, this means our practices focus on improving soil quality without harmful chemicals, supporting the well-being of farming communities, and ensuring fair treatment for everyone involved in the supply chain.
Founded by a coalition of like-minded organizations, including pioneers like the Rodale Institute and Patagonia, the ROA is working to create a healthier future for farming. Their vision aligns perfectly with our mission to produce coffee that not only tastes incredible but also respects the planet and the people who make it possible.
By choosing Regenerative Organic Certified® coffee, you're supporting a food system that seeks to restore the environment, uplift communities, and provide products with real integrity. Together, we can brew a better world—one cup at a time.
