The Canadiano: As Canadian as It Gets
At Salt Spring Coffee, we’ve always been deeply connected to our Canadian roots. Founded on Salt Spring Island 28 years ago, we are truly Canadian to this day. One seemingly small part of our Canadian identity is the Canadiano (Americano), which we have been serving at our Café & Kitchen in Ganges on Salt Spring Island since 1996.
The Canadiano is more than just a coffee. It is our commitment to brewing a high-quality cup, to Fair Trade and Regenerative Organic practices, and to keeping things local.
From sourcing to roasting to serving, we believe in building strong connections with our local communities. In Canada, this means roasting all our coffee in the Vancouver area, supporting Canadian jobs and serving freshly brewed coffee at our Café & Kitchen on Salt Spring Island. But keeping things local doesn’t stop here — it also applies to the communities we are getting our coffee from.
We work directly with farmers through long-term trade partnerships, paying them fair prices for their coffee and giving them the support they need to reinvest in their communities. The Fair Trade premiums we pay go directly to coffee farmers, who decide how to use them — whether for education, healthcare, or infrastructure. Our commitment to Regenerative Organic Certified® (ROC) coffee also means we support farming practices that support the land, protect biodiversity, and guarantee fair wages and working conditions for farmworkers.
By keeping the focus on local communities here in Canada and in the regions where our coffee is grown, every cup of Salt Spring Coffee helps in making a positive impact on both people and the environment. Whether you’re a local or just visiting Salt Spring Island, next time you’re here, stop by our Café & Kitchen in Ganges and try our Canadiano. It’s a great way to connect with our story — rooted in our love for great coffee and care for the environment & local communities.
