Molasses, Earthy, Full Body

With our Sumatra, the name says it all. This single-origin, dark roast coffee uses organic beans exclusively from the Indonesian island of Sumatra. This particular batch comes from our friends and partners at the Koperasi Baitul Qiradh Baburrayyan (KBQB), a coffee-producing cooperative established in the Island’s Aceh province in 1995.

Sumatra has a strong full body and smoky, earthy, syrupy flavours. We travel to Indonesia to stay connected to the source of organic coffee beans. Sumatra continues to be one of our founders favourite coffees. It holds a special place in our hearts.

Good substitute for real Java beans

Particularly when it is on sale, this is a very good buy for those who like a Mocha/Java blend. Ethiopian Mocha is impossible to find, but some is available on occasion from Yemen. I use other different Ethiopian beans most of the time. So too, proper Java beans are virtually unobtainable; this dark roast Sumatra is my go to substitute. As with all the Salt Spring coffees there are some more expensive alternatives, but organic fair trade Sumatra or other Indonesian beans are not easy to find. Recommended!

Delicious and low acid
